Rebuilding and Waterfront, at the Same Time
Fort Myers Beach took a direct hit in the September 2022 hurricane, and the island is still deep in
rebuild activity — alongside the canal and dock work that's always defined the place:
- Storm-rebuild electrical. Homes rebuilt or elevated to current flood standards need new service equipment, panels, and wiring as part of the project — the contractors we refer are used to coordinating that work with the rest of a rebuild, not just the electrical piece.
- Dock and boat lift wiring. Fort Myers Beach's canals carry the same electric-shock-drowning risks as Cape Coral's — see dock & lift wiring for warning signs at an existing dock.
- Generators for island living. A single bridge on and off the island means outages last longer here than on the mainland; standby generator installs are a common rebuild-project add-on.
- Direct Gulf salt exposure. Service equipment and dock hardware on Estero Island corrode faster than almost anywhere in Lee County — marine-grade fittings are the correct spec, every time.
Permits go through the Town of Fort Myers Beach
Fort Myers Beach is its own incorporated town with its own building department, separate from
unincorporated Lee County — electricians who work the island regularly know the process and the current
rebuild-related requirements.
